More and more, I am super interested in becoming more successful in Pampered Chef so that I can quit teaching. It's just not fun anymore.

Part of this is just my being burned out.

Most of this, however, is due to comments like this: "So..like...we can just make everything up on our resume, right?"

Or this - "How long does this presentation have to be?" (on the day it's due, no less).

Or just by the fact that, when I am generous enough to give students class time to work on projects or presentations, they spend the majority of it bragging about how wasted they were this weekend. Here's an idea - maybe get less wasted and save a few brain cells for some learning, yes?

Or they can multitask and do their presentations on their passive-aggressive approach to being wasted.

I once had someone ask if I would pretend to be an employer so they could get a good reference at their pretend job. Um........NO

They would have to have more than the brain cells of a gnat to do that, unfortunately.

I even suggested to them that they choose "lowering the drinking age" as their topic, given that they seem so interested in the practice. But no.

Yeah. Not the sharpest knives in the drawer. I'm a little scared for them if some apocalyptic disaster should befall us. They'll be the first eaten for sure.

What is WRONG with people? Actually, what is wrong with our admissions standards that these people actually get into college in the first place?

They probably had fake reference letters........

The valedictorian (sp?) of my high school class was dumber than mud. He never knew what was going on in classes I had with him. But he was in sports and his teachers were also his coaches.......

I wish you luck with the Pampered Chef thing! It's a hard road, but I do know there are people out there who make a full time living at it. Mostly only ones who will recruit a team under them, but it can be done.

I was sure your rant was going to have to do with state budgets or something. My sister called me yesterday to let me know that State of Missouri is screwing everyone over. Two years ago they put in a hiring freeze, which you know just means that all the existing employees have to pick up more slack. But the latest is that she's rated on the payscale/experience rating as a Level 4. She was just told that she's getting new jobs that are all a Level 16 rating. She won't get the Level 16 pay but she still has to do the job. And when she admitted to being overwhelmed, the HR people said if she can't do that job that she's fired.

Yeah, we're seeing similar things in Texas. I know of at least one Dallas school that is losing half its staff next year. And others have just had to close down their budgets were cut so badly. We're not quite to that point at the college level, but everyone is on edge.

I'm sure I will have another ranty post up soon about Housing's idea of saving money.
