Gearing up

I am going to write at least 1,000 words a day here until the end of October to get myself into the habit of writing daily before NaNoWriMo starts. I thought about putting it off today, but I changed my facebook status, announcing my intentions, so I already have had one friend badgering me about it. I'm starting to think that accountability is overrated.

But before I start all of that, how about a nice *cough*procrastinating*cough* post about what I've been up to?

-Moving in with Melanie some time this month. The time in Providence has been fun, but I really want to go back to Denton. It's weird being in Denton but not really living there. And I definitely won't mind saving over $100 a month in gas.

-Planning wedding and lingerie showers for my sister in November.

-Singing Amy Winehouse, old hymns, and Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye to put McG to sleep.

-Really liking most of the residents and my students this year.

-Putting my foot in my mouth and embarrassing myself (which I didn't think was that easy, but apparently, I'm very good at it) on a daily basis.

-Sleeping with the windows open.

-Camping (Yes. Camping.)

-Being a bad influence on my coworkers.

Maybe some of these stories will pop up this month in my daily writing. I don't really have a lot of plans about what I will be writing, but I've collected quotes that I find interesting, and I think I will just start by responding to those quotes. Not incredibly interesting, I suppose, but maybe an idea for next month will come out of one of them. I could use an idea. Or maybe I'll just tell the same story from fifteen different perspectives. A thousand words of limerick? Part of me just wants to write the whole month based on dares from the nano forum. That would be fun.

Jack London once said, "You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club." I think that's a fitting way to begin this almost-three-week exercise - by clubbing inspiration over the head and dragging it back to my cave. It sounds very aggressive and horrible, but it often works. Or makes me want to drink, but that's fun (and quasi-inspiring), too.

Alas, the writing will have to be posted later today, for it is almost 8:00, and I only have about 300 words down.
