I think I would like to sell my soul. It's not like I'm using it a whole lot. If I keep sitting through the same tired speech topics semester after semester, it's going to die pretty soon anyway. At this point, it could still be of use to someone.
And then I could stop teaching, at least for a little while. That's assuming, of course, that I have enough of a soul left to be worth a sum that could replace the salary.
*sigh*
The students are draining my will to live. It's not their fault (Ok...it's mostly not their fault). They don't know how many times I've had to sit through the same conservative, small-town-Texas, fire-and-brimstone versions of the prayer in schools and gay marriage and gun control debates, which are only debates if you apply the loosest definition of "debate" possible. "Sermon" is probably a more apt term. And as we discussed in church Sunday (remind me to post more about the group I'm meeting with - I think they're keepers), we've had enough sermons already.
Of course, it is their fault that they're giving these watered-down arguments and basing them only on highly biased, questionable sources that conveniently present only one skewed point of view. I ask for database sources (i.e., credible, more balanced sources that have undergone multiple editorial processes), and I get www.persecution.com and wikipedia and FoxNews, even though I remember explicitly stating in lecture that watching Fox for news is like going to Dr. Dre for medical advice. Perhaps my own reference is dated. People still know who Dr. Dre is, don't they?
So...any offers? My soul can be moody, but she would make a nice companion once you gain her trust. I can supply references...
