I made it home...
Jul. 14th, 2003 11:02 amI may never be able to eat canned peaches again. *shudders but smirks*
I'm sitting at my sister's house (don't worry, bock - your computer hasn't blown up yet. And I'm not hearing the noise - ?). I should be at work, but I overslept. That's one great thing about working in higher education. You control the schedule, so if something happens, you can always just revise the schedule. I am the queen of my classroom. And the queen needed a day off. Bet my 8:00 students were pissed that they got up early for nothing, though. Oh well, they'll survive.
Oh. My. Goodness. Rosencon was fun. That's the most fun that I've had in a long time. Now, before those of you who weren't there say, "Man, she needs to get a life," - you just don't know. It was great. Maybe I do need to get a life, but that's beside the point. I spent more money that I was planning, but that's ok. It's just money, right?
Well, Raven and I met up on Thursday - she came to my office - so that she could just spend the night and we could get an early start from Denton on Friday. Then she spent the afternoon being dragged on errands and watching me do laundry and visiting my sister before she moved to Austin for a month. Do I know how to entertain guests or what? Hopefully, she wasn't too bored. We did watch Rave MacBeth, and it was the first time she'd seen it, so perhaps she was appeased.
The drive to Kansas City wasn't as long as I expected it to be. We left around 6:30 and got there around 3:00. Rachael did so well - my little car's first road trip. I'm so proud. *sniff* They grow up so fast. And, of course, I had great company, so that probably made the time go faster. We just had one creative detour when I missed an exit near Oklahoma City, but it ended up looping us back around, so all was well.
I can't believe how well we all got along. Everyone was really friendly. It's great to put faces to the names. I just didn't know which name to use - screenname or real name. Luckily, we all seem to answer to both, so it worked out. And, of course, there was Michael overload, which was glorious. I don't think that I have ever squealed so much in one 72-hour period. I felt so girly. And I liked it. I am so overstimulated right now (still); I feel like I'm high. And all for the low, low price of....
The trip home seemed longer, but it usually does seem longer when you have to leave before you want to, or before others do. And we had to stop a lot. By the way - there are no Chevron stations between here and Kansas City. Never saw even one. So much for my card. Had to use Dad's phillip's 66 card. Thanks, Daddy. I hope he remembers that I was going to KC. Perhaps I should call him and let him know before he gets the bill. Every song that we heard on the radio made us think of videos that could be made to them. It was hilarious. Or we were delirious. Or something.
There's so much that I could say, but I'm in processing mode right now. All in all, great trip - exactly what I needed.
