Just a helpful little hint...

If you ever want to make a dish that starts out on the stove but ends up in the oven - a frittata, for example - you should use an oven-safe skillet. After removing this skillet from the 350-degree oven, however, you should not try to pick it up by the handle with your bare hand. The results are not pleasant. Just because you have moved the skillet via handle before - when making stir fry, for example - without burning yourself doesn't mean you can do so in this case. You see, the handle is attached directly to the skillet, which just came out of a hot, hot oven. Therefore, the handle is also hot, just like the skillet itself.

*sigh* I'm a dumbass.

I can almost console myself with the knowledge that it's common. Almost.

We should really concentrate the shared brain more in order to avoid such mishaps in the future.

was the fritata good at least?

The frittata was damn good. It's hard to mess up a frittata. Of course, dumping it on the floor after searing oneself with the pan might have ruined it. At least I didn't jerk away but just dropped it.

i did that once with a cast iron skillet causing me to shake my hand and drop it on the floor, where it then bouncing slightly and ended up on my foot.

Oh, no! At least I just dropped it back on the stove. I think that the sizzling sound from the water on my hand scared me enough that I just let go.

I'll put this on my list, right under "#35: sticking your knuckles against the inner metal surfaces of a hot oven is not recommended."

Yeah...that's unpleasant, too. Maybe I'll knit myself some hand guards to always wear when I'm in the kitchen - just in case I behave like myself while I'm in there.

It's better today. I'm glad. Because it's really hard to shower one-handed.
