I took it from her. :P

Ten years ago, I...
1. was in my second year of college
2. went tubing every Sunday
3. still lived in the dorm

Five years ago, I...
1. graduated with my MA
2. decided to stay in Denton for a while
3. started teaching at TCC

One year ago, I...
1. had a crush on a student
2. taught 31 hours of courses the first 6 weeks of school
3. had stayed out of the emergency room for almost a year

So far this year, I...
1. have started a crappy novel
2. have moved
3. have lost Margat & Co. to Arizona for a second time

Yesterday, I...
1. skipped my morning class
2. found out that my friend Shelly was in labor
3. tried a new brand of macaroni and cheese

Today, I...
1. spent time with Kim and Angela
2. came to school early to meet a student who never showed. Punk.
3. made potato soup

Tomorrow, I will...
1. wander into VS to see if they still need holiday help
2. sleep in
3. perhaps spend the day shopping and lolling about with Tammy and Michelle

In one year, I will...
1. be less in debt (here's hoping!)
2. have turned 30
3. have chosen a doctoral program

In five years, I will...
1. hopefully have finished my PhD (in light of NaNoWriMo, dissertation isn't looking so daunting)
2. maybe be married....maybe
3. thinner

Right now, I'm still in the idealistic phase. My top three are UT Austin, Northwestern, and University of Arizona (upon which decision I would then buy stock in Claritin before I single-handedly drove up their demand).

Maybe also Indiana, Florida?

That would be ok, except that I'd have to live in Indiana or Florida. :)

Since I don't have a big RTVF or journalism background (communication, journalism and RTVF are all different departments at UNT for some reason), I'm going for a program with a much broader scope. I was also thinking about taking some journalism classes since I've been interested recently, but I haven't decided.

Here's a tough question to consider: What do you want to be teaching when you finish your Ph.D.?

Even tougher questions - Do I want to be teaching when I finish? Should I even get the PhD until I know what I want to be when I grow up? *is so confused*

I would like to get back into the research aspect, because that's what I miss. I can take or leave teaching (as is common this time of the semester, I'm closer to leaving than taking). Of course, I don't even know what I want to research anymore - it's been so long - other than the very broad realm of "media." Or maybe not.

Today is obviously not a decisive day for me.

If research is your thing, then you definitely should go back for a Ph.D. That's what the whole thing is all about. And you can do research on a corporate level without teaching, at least in communication.

Mmm....corporate research...

*drools*

Yes - that is what I want to be when I grow up. That's as close to being a paid student as I think that I'll get.
