Hot. Very hot. And dry. And full of cactus. Yvonne and I (well, Yvonne mostly) actually had an hour-ish long conversation on the way out to Arizona about the different types of cactus. Riveting. I teased her endlessly about it the rest of the week. In fact, I think I'll email her and tease her about it again.

I had so much fun! If I'd had my own place to stay, I would have wanted to stay another week.

We got pedicures and manicures on Thursday. I still have the cutesy little flowers that that brilliant girl painted on my big toes. That is the girliest thing I've done in a while. Found The Best Coffee Shop Ever. Maui Mountain. I love them. If Maui Mountain were a boy, I'd marry it. Heck, I might marry it anyway. And it was two doors down from Margat's chiropractor. Heavenly and convenient - can't beat that.

I got soooo sunburned Saturday morning. Sure, I can stay out with my tranluscent white skin for three hours in the Arizona sun in a pool without sunscreen without burning. I'm an idiot. But later, I bought Solarcaine and had people spray me down. It felt so good I couldn't stand it.

I also got to spend a lot of time with gradeafan (for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to make her name appear with that little person beside it that links to her lj. I'm sure it's much easier than I'm making it). Besides the karaoke with sinisterf that I've already written about, we also met Thursday night at Chili's and again on Monday at Hard Rock Cafe so she could get shirts. And, of course, I had to buy a coffee mug. Just can't leave any place without buying another mug. It's a sickness.

The most memorable part of the trip (and by "most memorable," I mean hottest) was our visit to the Desert Botanical Gardens. Tell me that's not an oxymoron. Guess what we saw there? CACTUS!!!! Oh, the jokes. I was merciless. Poor Yvonne. I can't believe she and Margat put up with me. I even rented an umbrella to shield myself from the sun. It was quite a diva afternoon.

The trip back was fairly uneventful, except for getting stopped by border patrol about 50 miles east of El Paso (is it just me, or is that NOT on the border?). Yvonne was more upset about it than I was. I just wanted to get home. We made it back at 4:00 Thursday morning, just in time to nap before I started faculty meetings and training for the fall semester. Whirlwind starts next week.
