The long-awaited weekend update
Apr. 22nd, 2004 05:45 pmI know you're excited. Try to contain yourself.
Well, like I said in an earlier post,
bubbles79 and
ravenluvslex arrived in town last Thursday. We stayed up late and slept in on Friday (kind of). Then we watched Rave MacBeth and decided as a group that, yes, 1999 is still the worst movie he's ever made - possibly the worst movie EVER. We then watched the last few episodes of Smallville that Bubbles had missed. Margat and Micah came up from Ft. Worth, and we watched Micah while he flirted with the girls. Took them to Mr. Chopsticks...that was fun...we were toying with the idea of going to the Ft. Worth Arts and Jazz thing, but the concept of driving 45 minutes to Ft. Worth was distasteful to us.
That night, we went to an 80's theme party for my friend Kim. There was dancing - Bubbles danced a lot, for which Kim was grateful, because not many people *cough*us*cough* danced that much. Hey - it was stop dancing for a while or throw up on the dance floor from getting overheated. I know, I'm old. And perhaps a sweater, no matter how Flashdance-y and cute it was, was not the best wardrobe choice. My bad. But I had fun having cake and watching Kim and her sister Amy - they were hilarious.
Lotsa margaritas later, we fell asleep after Raven and I played the Smallville drinking game. We kept adding things just so we could drink more. Not that I ever need an excuse.
We spent Saturday on the square in Denton. We started by gorging ourselves with ice cream from Beth Marie's. Then we got coffee at Jupiter House. We went to Recycled Books (ceremoniously dubbed Best Bookstore Ever by Raven) and a couple of flea market/antiquey/rent-space-to-sell-the-useless-crap-around-your-house stores. At the first of these places, we found Superman and Wonder Woman cookie jars. I gotta have that Superman jar (not that there are ever cookies at my house), because he looks so mean that I'd be afraid to take a cookie. At the second store, Bubble brought a sharp, shiny weapon. She looked pretty fierce carrying it down the street. You just never know what you'll see on the square. Then we ate at the Greenhouse. I just love dragging people to my favorite places. :)
Saturday night, we went to a play at El Centro - it was a fairy tale double bill. The first was Cinderella Wore Combat Boots. Cute premise - fairly annoying performance. Entertained only by the fact that two former and one current students of mine were in it, and one of them was a pretty boy from last semester who appeared throughout the performance in a dress. Funny, he always struck me as a shy one. I was also entertained by Bubbles and Raven laughing constantly about lipstick falling on the floor and trying to regain their composure. The second performance was much better - it had something to do with getting kicked out of Walmart (favorite line "You can't fuck with Walmart), and it made much more sense than I can make it sound like it did. Just had to be there. The girl in it was hilarious. Two thumbs up.
Afterwards, we had a bite to eat at Gators. Long rant short - awful. Just awful. Bubbles said her food was good (it was actually the only thing that made it to the table warm) and my banana drink was ok, but imagine everything else that could possibly make for a bad dining experience and insert here, because it probably happened. I'm sorry I suggested the place; I swear that it used to be good.
We came back to Denton after that and had our own private karaoke party at the apartment. Basically, Bubbles videotaped us singing and drinking (ok...so that was me). Perhaps this tape never sees the light of day, yes?
Sunday started early. While Bubbles slept peacefully in my warm, comfy bed, I took Raven home to go to church and I came back and went to my church. I'd missed the week before, so I was having withdrawal. It was good, and when I got home, Bubbles was happily watching American Sweethearts. That afternoon, I took her (again with the dragging - my weekends are never busy unless I have company) to Stephanie's homemade gourmet party where we ate way too many starches (you know it's bad when I think it's too many). Then we came home, I checked email and powernapped while Bubbles showered.
Refreshed, we celebrated Michelle's birthday at the Rainforest Cafe. Really good food (I highly recommend the Pastalaya), and fun. Tammy was weirded out by the animatronic monkeys spontaneously bursting into action, but nice atmosphere nonetheless. We had a volcano for dessert (huge mound of chocolate cake, vanilla ice cream, syrup, atop a brownie *gurgles*).
Then we came home and got dressed to go out to the Church (Dallas goth club). We met Margat and Jeff there, and I saw one of my students from back in the day at UNT, which was cool. I miss Corey - this new bartender never made eye contact. Not unless my eye are on my chest.
We had lots of fun. Raven made a lot of friends, and Bubbles and I danced a lot. Bubbles even acquired a stalker. StalkerBoy would be across the room and then suddenly show up right by her side (or by my side, if he was being coy). One of my favorite moments was when they played "Send me an Angel" and, lo and behold, there he appeared. lol But he was a cute stalker - he had the whole bald thing going, and he had nice lips, so if you blurred your vision a litte (which wasn't hard after two of those drinks - maybe there's something to be said for being ogled after all), he looked like Lex. He kept dancing (and I use that term loosely) closely enough that we could smell him, and wow, he smelled good, too. We think we'll keep him.
Monday, we slept in, and I made Bubbles watch Family Feud. She cleaned my house for me (I think it was just to get away from The Feud), so I'm not complaining. In fact, Bubbles, you can come back any time. :)
We had a lot of fun. I highly recommend both of them as houseguests.
