Mmm...stale Kix. Breakfast of champions. *almost crunches*

I spent the weekend with my parents, so Friday, I decided that it would be a good idea to leave straight from working the midnight-8am shift to drive three hours to see them. In case you're wondering - not a good idea. I should have napped first. But I didn't fall asleep (and, thus, made it there alive). I am, however, still catching up on my sleep. I slept nine hours yesterday.

Saturday, my mom hosted a Homemade Gourmet party for me. It was a busy day in town (of course, I would pick the weekend of Homecoming and All-School Reunion to visit), so she only had one show up, but we weren't expecting a lot. At any rate, I got to practice and did pretty well for having just two people order. Btw, for those interested, the new fall catalogs are in. Comment if you want me to send you one.

That night, we sat outside and watched the deer play out in the fields. Relaxation = good.

Sunday was my grandma's 92nd birthday, so it turns out that I picked a great weekend to come home after all. My dad called his friend at the radio station and had him play her favorite hymn on the air. She got really excited when she heard it and even more excited when the calls came in from everyone else who heard it. What do you give the woman who has everything? A ride to K-Bobs, and then get out of her way! We took her out to lunch, and she did more socializing with everyone in the restaurant than eating. She got to talk to people she "hadn't seen in just ages." Of course, the first thing she told all of them was that she was in the process of getting over a urinary tract infection. That'll teach them to make small talk. Don't ask MeeMaw how she is unless you really want to know.

I've had an epiphany. I don't think my family's heart/diabetes issues are hereditary. I think they're a natural result of excessive eating habits, passed down generation after generation. I ate twice as much as I normally eat - not because I was actually hungry, but because that's just what one does at that house. Normal people eat until they're full. My family eats until they're tired.

I also always manage to come home with twice as much as I took. I have tomatoes from the garden, a box of jars full of homemade plum jelly and plum butter (because, apparently, "I'm on my last jar" means "Send me home with eight more." Not that I'm complaining...), and three tubs of cookie dough that Mom bought from kids doing fundraisers. I hope the kids in the hall really like cookies, because I'm about to bake a whole mess of them and bring them up here, just to get them out of my house.

Is it 8:00 yet? *yawns*
