I despise video games.

Not because they are bad. I don't believe that they cause violence or cancer or rot the brain in any way. Some of them can actually improve fine motor skills.

I despise them simply because they grate on my last nerve. With their tinkling, irritating muzak and constant beeping.

They don't have to even be loud. Our poor residents - there they are, sitting over there, socializing, having a good time, not breaking any rules. They are being so good. And still, I kinda want to make them go to their rooms, because I'm just not sure how much more of this I can take.

I'm going to need the residents to find something better to do with their time.

One day, when I have kids, one of them is going to call me late one night. "Mom, I'm in jail. But don't worry - my pimp is going to post bail."

And I'm going to take a deep, cleansing breath and ask, "But were you playing Smash Brothers?"

Because I can handle them being bad. Just not annoying.

Personally, I love video games but I prefer the ones that actually require you to think and not just kill stuff. My mom babysits a 5 year old that likes to play some kind of Barbie adventure game on the pc but she has to use headphones; maybe suggest that?

Yeah, I agree... video game noises are irritating.... but, I do not mind Picman (spelling??) and Monkeyball 2 is OK for the most part. It has techno music on some of it. Hours of any video game gets irritating. Jeff and Micah can play for HOURS on end. One day . . . . . . 6 hours stopping only to pee. As for noises.. they all drive me nuts....TV, toys, walking too loudly, anything that makes noise. . . .
