Dammit. I've been singing that song since Saturday.
Actually, we are the pirates who do a whole hell of a lot. Saturday was the Relay for Life. Twelve hours of walking. Well, twelve hours of at least one person from the team being on the track at all times. I walked a lot. My feet have never hurt that badly. I stopped counting the miles at Mile 12.
But I had fun. The weather was nice, and I only got a little sunburned, which is more than can be said for various other members of the team. The extraordinarily bad music was easy to tune out most of the time. And we won the trophy for outstanding use of theme. It was a movie theme, and we went with Pirates of the Carribbean. We wore costumes. We had blow-up parrots. We had a cardboard/duct tape/PVC pipe ship that we all "rode" in for the first lap. We even had those fruit snacks with Johnny Depp on the box. If you're lucky, there may be pictures of me dressed as a pirate forthcoming. But don't hold your breath.
What's even more important than winning (because let's face it - I love to win. And why shouldn't we? We're the best. Because we are. Just in case there was any doubt.) is that we exceeded our fundraising goal. So there was success!
That morning, we planted a tree in front of Traditions in honor of Raymond, the guy who died last semester. Actually, the "we" part is a little misleading. Other people planted the tree. Besides my brief five minutes with the shovel, I mostly stood aside, drank coffee, got caught in the sprinkler, and watched others work. In my defense, there were only so many shovels to go around. I wanted to make sure that everyone got a chance to contribute. See, I'm a giver.
After Relay for Life, when we all were just about ready to die, a few of us went out to celebrate Tim's (one of the RAs) 21st birthday. Yay! All the RAs are 21 and up now. The kids are grown! It was short (we didn't leave for the bar until 12:30ish and the bars in Texas close at 2:00) but fun.
I took Sunday night off from the desk so that I could pick
ravenluvslex up from her retreat. She was tired but had fun. And we ate at Chili's, which was yummy.
And now I'm almost back into my normal schedule. My body's so confused. It's not sure whether it's supposed to be tired or rested right now. *chants soothingly* Go with rested...go with rested...
