Something of note
Jan. 3rd, 2006 01:54 pmWell, it may be of note. I'm not sure. I just think the first post of the year ought to be of note. Or something.
Adam's on lunch break. The swimmers went to swim. Liz is on call and looking for food. Immanuel is moving in.
Yep. That's it. That's all that's happening. So maybe not so much "of note" as "of mind-numbing dullness." But hey - I'm getting paid for it. And I am keeping myself entertained well enough.
I do have new year's resolutions. I tell myself every year that I'm not going to cave in and make resolutions...but I always do. I can't help it. I'm a goal-setter. The resolutions this year are threefold (not two...not four...three. Three shall be the number of the counting...):
Resolution the first: I want to run 10 miles without stopping. For those of you who work out a lot, this may not sound like much. Then you must consider the source. I like to run. I've been running quite a bit recently. And last week, I did three miles in one day, but not at once. My "without stopping" limit is about 1.5 miles, and there is rasping afterward. It's a little sad - I'm in the best shape I've been in in the last five years, but I am still so pitifully out of shape that it's laughable. So my goal is lofty but (I think) attainable.
Resolution the second: I want to actually finish that 50 books in one year thing this year. I'm going to start by re-reading books that I've already read that I've been wanting to read again. I didn't read them last year, because I wanted my 50 to be "new" books. I took a little detour with The Chonicles of Narnia, but all the other books were books that I read for the first time last year. But there are books that I like to read over and over again, and I really missed doing that last year. So that's where I'm starting. I've got a year to make up. It may take a while.
Resolution the third: I want to pay off my car. I was looking at the bill this last month, and it's completely doable. This discovery brought much rejoicing. A jig was danced.
Hey - those look a lot like last year's resolutions, only more specific. I accomplished those goals a little bit. I think I made them vague to ensure at least a little success. But I have lost weight, I did finish a lot of books, and I am in (slightly) more control with the finances now than I was last year at this time. I'm ready for less vague goals. *gets pumped up*
There shall be an update on the resolution front toward the end of every month. That way, maybe I'll actually accomplish them by means of actually remembering what they are. Good plan, right?

Date: 2006-01-12 07:00 am (UTC)This running business is kicking my butt. Seriously. I feel as if I have been kicked in the butt. And the calves. But I'm still doing it and - more importantly - I'm still liking it!
