I've taken up knitting. Yes. You read that right. Knitting. I knit now. Mel was at my house on Wednesday, and she brought her knitting. Then Shelby started knitting. Then I went upstairs to retrieve yarn and knitting needles that my grandma gave me a long time ago. I was just going to give it to Mel or someone who could use it.
Then...that someone became me.
So now I knit. I was making a scarf, but it was hideously misshapen and had holes in it, so we cut it short and called it a trivet. And we named it Neil.
Now I'm starting on a new scarf. My perfectionism is showing.
Regarding recent events, We had Ray's memorial tonight. It was good. Winfred and Company grilled and grilled and grilled. We had so much food. And Katie made super sweet punch, which was perfect. It just needed a little rum.
We set up a table where people could make pages for a scrapbook to honor Ray's memory. We're going to give it to his family. I just looked through it - it's so sweet. People are amazing.
We, of course, also watched Animal Planet and had cake, two things he loved.
It was good to see all the staff together and getting along. I'm pointedly ignoring that the reason this is so special to me is because it so rarely happens. I'm also actively detaching from the reminder that it won't ever happen again (well, not with this exact group, anyway) when Travis and Bennie leave. Because that makes me ache a little.
It's interesting how many different types of sad you can feel about the same thing.
If you couldn't tell, today's sadness is deep yet avoidant.
I'm sending out cards this week. If you didn't answer my poll and you want one, email me your address at coffeesnob@gmail.com. I found my list from last year, so if you didn't answer it and you're on there, chances are you'll still get a card. Well, you will if you still live at the same place.
Speaking of cards, I received my very first card of the season from
bittermint! You win! Thanks!
I'm in favor of icons with girl faces on them. I seem to have a lot of them.
