Besides one of these *points at icon*

I need a mug that says, "Mi casa es su casa, pero mi taza no es su taza."

Because nobody gets my coffee cup.

That's probably not the best spanish word for "cup," but it rhymes, so I deem it close enough.

mmmmmmm......JG

Is Jarhead porny? The Youth Minister said it was an awful perverted movie, that had nothing to do with supporting "The War" and that he would fieel sick inside if any of the youth went and saw it. I feel that perhaps he's a bit dramatic. And plan to see it anyways. Did the previews lead you to beleive there was going to be some sort of political statement?

Well, it's about war...and we're at war...so I expected the political statement. But it was done in such a way that you can get whatever political statement you're looking for out of it. If one is against the war, and goes to see it, looking to be offended, one probably will be. If one is for the war, and goes to see it, looking to be offended, one probably will be. If one is looking for the movie to validate his/her feelings about the war, whatever those feelings might be, one will not be disappointed. Both messages are there. That's why my brain liked it.

When I saw the previews, though, I wasn't thinking politics. Because rawr. Nice. And I was definitely not disappointed. That's why the rest of me liked it. *points at icon*

As for it being perverted...uh, yeah. It's a movie about the Marines. And I have it on multiple good authorities (i.e., people who have been in the Marines or some other branch of the military) that it's a pretty accurate portrayal of what goes on. It was actually a little tamer than I expected. Lots of lonely boys with minimal training left on their own in the desert with the knowledge that, at any moment, they might die. They're bound to go a little crazy. And cuss a lot. And be obnoxious and dirty. And drink and dance around with strategically placed Santa hats (yay for Santa hats!).

I am pointedly ignoring the fact that a youth minister said that it wasn't about supporting the war at all as if that were a bad thing. Because I must. Must ignore.

If I were a youth minister, I would probably not recommend the movie to a bunch of teenagers. If I were a parent, I would probably not let my teenager watch it unless they watched it with me. I figure if they're mature enough to sit through nude Jake Gyllenhaal with Mom sitting right there, then they're mature enough to handle the movie.

I think we have one here. You can work with pottery or mosaics. It's called Kiln Time. But one of my former students who annoyed the snot out of me works there, and it's just not worth it to me. :)
