Why again do people (ok, people from the middle of nowhere in Texas) eat black-eyed peas on New Years Day? Why would they do that to themselves? Blech. I'm not sure the good luck is worth it.

NYEve was fun. We went to Jim and Nancy's to play games and gorge ourselves shamelessly. First, I'll set the stage.

Flashback to Sunday when Jim taught us to play 42, during which lesson he informed us that he was rarely beaten at the game. Then, an hour later, Nancy and Mike teamed up and won against him and Conan. So, just for kicks, I sent Nancy a congratulations card. It had a quote from Thoreau (something about "if a man sees something he wants and strives toward the goal, he will win...,") and of course, I had to mark out all the "his" and "he" and replace them with "her" and "she." On the inside it said "Quite the performance - Congratulations." And I was going to stop there, but, as I was browsing through the cards, there appeared before me a sympathy card about the Lord gently, lovingly comforting someone in their time of loss, and I was inspired to get Jim a card as well. Heh, heh.

So last night, when I arrived, both cards were displayed on the coffee table. And Jim challenged me to play 42 - which I had just learned Sunday. So I teamed up with Mike (good luck and all that, since he was Nancy's partner during her spectacular win), and yes...Jim was defeated once more. Of course, I became quickly interested in the queso and the trivial pursuit game after that. I mean, I don't want to deny someone else the opportunity to play 42 with Jim. Right. And I wouldn't want to taint my victory with a loss.

We also played a couple of games of Cranium, also known as The Making-Scott-Act-Things-Out Game. Fun for the whole family. But it was Michelle's portrayal of Mike Tyson when she lunged at Tammy's ear with fangs bared and watching Jim act like Shirley Temple that really made the night.

I've finally surrendered to the idea that my refrigerator is on its last legs. Everything that I put in it takes on this funky smell (and yes, it's clean). Not so much in the freezer but in the lower half. So maybe I talk to the apt. people about a new one. Soon. Until then, all refrigerated items are in the mini-fridge that I used in the dorm. I've even moved all the magnets to it, which took a ridiculously long time. Tyson Beckford wouldn't fit on it, though, so I just sat his picture on top.

Class over tomorrow. Yea. Then a week off. I think I'm actually going to take it. No meetings for me. Well, maybe I'll go to the one at TCC, since I have to go copy my syllabus anyway.
