The Year in Review
Dec. 29th, 2003 03:43 pmThanks to
discodelic for the cute card!! And
nonnierms sent me a really sweet thank you note!
And to
slodwick for the use of this pretty icon that beckoned me.
And
aelita, if you ever need a slave...I now officially will work for those coffee creams. It took the UPS guy three times to find me at home, but he arrived this morning and delivered to me those little nuggets of seduction. It was kind of funny, actually. I crawled out of bed (guess he figured that he had to catch me early) when I heard the knock on the door, and I had to stand close to him to see what he wanted (damn he smelled good) - I'm blind without my contacts - so he flirted a little. I'm sure he was just being polite because he thought I was flirting by getting in his space, but it was nice all the same.
Brace yourself - this is the time of year I start getting all introspective. But at least there's this tidy, little meme going around to help me channel my nostalgia.
1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
-I went to New York and Arizona.
-I met someone (lots of someones, actually) in person whom I had met online.
-I lived alone (disregarding, of course, the occasional appearance from Tyrone the Playboy Wonder Cat)
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't remember if I made resolutions last year, much less if I kept them, so the answer is probably no. But my resolution this year is to find storage, redecorate, and all those other things that I have to do in order to get the apartment organized just the way I want it. Not a deep resolution, but important to me in a "letting go of the past" sort of way.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes! My Margat had baby Micah. I'm pretty sure she was the only one, or at least, she's the one I was most excited about.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No. Wow. First year in a long time.
5. What countries did you visit?
Just the United States. :) *fighting the urge to say something obnoxious about Texas being its own country and rattle off other places I went*
6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?
-Medical insurance
-Summer (or at least a minimester) off
-More dating prospects
7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
September 29. It was the last M day I taught at El Centro (so last time I saw N) and it was the first time I talked to Margat after she had Micah - I will always remember the sound of her voice (despite the bad reception I was getting) when she told me.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Not having to go to the emergency room for stomach issues after having to go at least twice a year for the past 5 years.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Handling my finances - I've been a bad girl this year.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?.
No! Yea! Praise God.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My plane ticket to visit Hope in January. :)
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
gradeafan - just 'cause. She's a really awesome person that I'm glad to have gotten to know a little better this year.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Our governor Rick Perry. Dumbass.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent or car payment. Or eating out (like I said, I've been bad).
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
-Trips to Kansas City, New York, Arizona
-New textbooks for the spring (I know...nerd...)
-All the thoughtful cards and pressies my friends sent this year
16. What song will always remind you of 2003?
I couldn't narrow it down, so I'll give you a top five.
5. Girls and Boys by Good Charlotte (aka...look how pretty Tom Welling is with JBF hair)
4. I Wanna Be a Kennedy by Kill Hannah
3. Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet
2. Why Don't You and I by Santana feat...and that guy...whatshisname.
And the song that will remain most etched in my memory when I think of 2003 (hey, look at that - guess I did narrow it down)...
1. Here Without You by 3 Doors Down
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? happier
ii. thinner or fatter? thinner
iii. richer or poorer? about the same
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Making more strides toward furthering my education (e.g., studying for the LSAT, choosing between law school and PhD, picking a school, applying, etc.) Anything really, other than just saying, "Hmmm....I should do that someday soon."
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Trying to be peacemaker between people who don't want to make peace
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I'm a little retro here, but I spent it with family.
22. Did you fall in love in 2003?
Not really. I'm nursing a pretty serious crush on someone I met, but that's not the same - don't really know him well enough to be love. It's probably not mutual, so it doesn't matter anyway.
23. How many one-night stands?
None
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Smallville. Really got into One Tree Hill, too.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Why Girls are Weird by Pamela Ribon

28. What did you want and get?
A livejournal. :)
29. What did you want and not get?
N (sense a theme here?)
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
The one that sticks out is ROTK, but that's probably because I just saw it recently.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 28, and I don't really remember what I did. It was during spring break, but I think my schools were on different breaks this year, so I probably worked. I do remember being treated to lots of free food, though.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I refuse to mention the boy again...oops...
That, or winning the lottery. :)
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
Is it clean, and does it fit more loosely than last month? And I developed even more of a t-shirt fetish than I had before.
34. What kept you sane?
(assuming I was kept sane...or was ever sane enough to stay there...) Jesus
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Michael Rosenbaum. Damn beautiful man.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
War
37. Who did you miss?
Hope and Margat. And seeing Mel on a regular basis.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
I have to choose just one? Take a look at most of my flist.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003:
Any control that I think I have is an illusion.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
You still have all of me.
