I had to take the Sonoma book back to the library. My obsessive tendency has reared its head.

Besides, someone else was waiting on it. Far be it from me to deprive another of the ability to annoy friends, family, and students by nodding toward every bit of food in sight and saying, "That's not Sonoma friendly."

It's a little unnerving how quickly I eased into being one of those people.

Another quirk that has surfaced is my laissez-faire approach to following rules. Mel is doing Sonoma with me, and she's been very strict about it, even though she's used to eating more often. She was going to go through the drive-through and get a soda, and she called for support. At that time, I was at home with the parents eating a huge steak and mashed potatoes and planning on a brownie with pudding for dessert, which is very much not on the diet. It was good, too. I don't regret it at all. I just can't work up any guilt over not following it more closely. It's not in my nature.

But although I haven't stuck to it as closely as I'd planned, I have had some positive changes. First, I am being mindful about what I eat, which includes becoming mindful about how un-mindfully I have been eating. The students are doing demonstrative speeches this week, and I was halfway through a piece of pineapple upside-down cake before it even occurred to me that maybe inhaling cake is not the key to effective energy management. Before this week, I don't know that I would have thought twice about it.

Second, I am remembering how much more energy just a few simple changes in my diet can give me. I had no trouble finding the energy to run twice (once uphill against the West Texas wind and sand - nothing makes one mile feel like four more than that) and do pilates once last week. Yes - you read that right - I actually did three workouts (beyond normal active lifestyle stuff) last week. Now, some of you may do this all the time, but it's a pretty uncommon thing for me. I am actually looking forward to running tomorrow morning.

I also found a 5K run/walk on April 21 that I might do if I can get someone to go with me. It would give me a test run where I could walk part of the way before I jump in with the more experienced runners on the July 4 one. I'm thinking about it.

On a completely unrelated note - Heroes = yay. April 23 is a damn long time to wait, though. *angst*
