Prelude to a card
Dec. 15th, 2005 02:13 amI can't believe that sending greeting cards is this complicated.
[Poll #634157]
I was just going to send my cute little card. I was happy with my choice to do so. But then I had an unfortunate experience that changed my mind.
I was yelled at today because I said "Happy Holidays" to someone. Because I didn't take the time before greeting him to find out what his holiday of choice was so that I could wish him a happy one properly.
You'd think I'd told him to go fuck himself or something.
Dude. Unclench.
People are so uptight about greetings that I think they're missing the whole point of greeting anyway. You know, the well-wishing, the happiness. Joy. Peace. It makes me want to not even bother saying anything at all. I'll just stare and make them nervous. I know - being a Christian, I come from a viewpoint of privilege. But I adjust. I say "happy holidays"...to everyone. I am an equal opportunity greeter. It includes the whole season, from the end of Thanksgiving to New Years. Even if I know the person to whom I'm speaking is a Christian, it's a lot more succinct (and, thus, more greeting-like) than "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year." Efficiency is good. People should be happy with that, right?
*grimace*
Wishing people happiness is so offensive. Stupid happiness. *kicks it*
