My age-old query of "Why do people take 8:00 classes?" was replaced this morning by "Why the hell are all of you people so damn chipper at 8:00 in the morning?" I'm subbing for the professor who took both mini-mester classes today and tomorrow. I think that every morning person in the world signed up for the 8:00 class. They were all excessively alert, especially compared to the sluggish "hgamsld" (which, on my planet, loosely translates to "'sup?") with which I greeted them when I walked in the door. I thought I had prepared. I woke myself up - and actually got up - at 7:00 yesterday morning so that my body could acclimate to the shock of early morning hours a day before I had to be civil during said hours. I had no caffeine after noon yesterday to ensure that I would go to sleep before midnight. But all the preparation in the world could not possibly match their inhuman gleefulness.

The coffee guy downstairs is fired. Who told him he could take a vacation?! I foolishly planned on his being there so that I could get my morning fix and, thus, did not bring coffee of my own. So I had to drink sludge out of the machine, and then go spend the morning with bouncy people. *grimace*

The afternoon class is much nicer. They are calm and mellow, as they work on their group projects. And, as I have read all of the history of the coffee industry that I can stand for now (perhaps a book with a lighter subject would have been a better choice, given the long day and the lack of quality caffeination), and as they have finished the research portion of the project, I have now taken over the classroom computer. The class says, "Hi."

My break from teaching (which is my lame excuse for my break from lj, as I have found it unappealing to leave the house, as doing so would seriously cut into my lolling about) has been nice. I started planting things so that the front of the apartment doesn't look so bare in comparison to the neighbors' places. I went swimming yesterday, right before we had a mild rain, which I played in. I've gotten packages from [livejournal.com profile] lilmouse1073 and [livejournal.com profile] gradeafan (yay! Presents!). I've watched some movies, read some books (update to my pathetically small 50-books-in-a-year list coming soon), and worked on Summer I syllabi. I've also decided to learn how to cook something new each week this summer. This week will be Schezchuan green beans (so easy it feels like cheating). So nice, but productive, too.
