Weekend news
Jan. 26th, 2004 04:53 pmMy dad rules all. He built me a bed frame, and he and mom brought it to me on Saturday. I forgot how cool under-bed storage space was. And I've only fallen off once.
My friend Angela is pretty cool, too. She was making Beth a scarf - she's on a knitting kick - and I commented how much I liked it....and how much I liked the color green. :) Well, last night, she was at my house, and she pulled out a green scarf that she made for me! I love how she'll argue and argue with me, and then just do random sweet things.
I hosted a homemade gourmet (direct marketing company that sells affordable mixes and meal plans to 1. give people a better alternative than fast food when they're in a hurry and 2. assist the culininarily challenged *raises hand*) party last night, and I think it was a success. I had no food left, no one died from my "cooking," and people had fun. It was a little exhausting - I get squirrelly when I have a lot of people over, fussing over whether they have enough to drink or if they're too hot or cold, or whether they'll notice the one thing out of place. Damn southern hospitality upbringing. But I enjoyed it anyway, I guess. I got free stuff out of it, anyway, and I got to see a lot of people that I don't get to see very often.
Best thing ever to do with leftover spaghetti sauce - frittata.
Well, since I haven't posted much about my Boston/Providence trip, and I just know that you're all dying to read about it, here are the things I liked most:
- Hope was there. :)
- Meeting her roommate Kalista (aka, my hero) - with all the coffee paraphernalia and giving me a set of espresso cups.
- Visiting Equal Exchange in person - every inch of the place was graced with the smell of fresh roasted coffee, and they had a warehouse, chocked full of coffee as far as the eye could see. I imagine that it's very much what heaven must be like.
- Snow! Real winter! Looking like a crazy lady at the airport because I rushed outside without my coat in the single digit weather to watch my breath. Wearing my new coat that I never get to wear here because it just doesn't get that cold in Texas (and
tjbrown1978, I got your email. I know what snow looks like! lol). Brisk wind that took my breath away at the train station. My legs numbing as I hiked up the hill to Equal Exchange. Mmm...cold weather...*gurgles*
- That weird wooden chicken that kept staring at me at EE.
- That weird guy on the poster in the bathroom. I swear he was ogling me.
- Hockey game Friday night.
- Trinity (I think that's what it was called) "all roads lead to Trinity," this great little pub in Providence with homemade beer. The brown ale has a distinct coffee flavor.
- Love Buzz coffee...mmmm....
- Pizza from Cecelia's
- Watching lots of movies, including Simone (the one about the virtual actress), after which Hope and I decided that Johnny Depp isn't real because he's just too pretty to be real and no one we know has ever seen him in person.
- Luna remembering me and even deigning to sit in my lap for a while. I am truly honored.
- Driving through Brown and contemplating law school there.
- Coffee Exchange - fair trade coffee shop in Providence.
- Eating brunch at Nick's (hey, as long as his name was staring me down from the fridge, I might as well see what the fuss was all about) - little tiny place with the best omelettes ever.
- Hope's friend Alison and her cat Hugo, whom I called Hugo Boss, who liked me but did not particularly appreciate the songs I made up for him.
- Reading lots of Jane Green - one on the plane up there, one the way back.
- Really good soup in a bread bowl at South Station.
- Opening my bag when I got home and being greeted with the smell of coffee. Downright glorious.
Of course, the very best thing there ever was about the trip and Providence and what little of Boston I saw was that Hope was there and I got to spend time with her. Yea!
And the countdown continues...
10 more days until my Margat, Jeff, and Micah arrive!!
