Rustling around
Aug. 29th, 2003 12:17 pmTrying to get everything taken care of so I can enjoy my weekend with the rosebuds and not worry, "Did I pay rent? Am I ready for classes next week? Did I...???" So I'm running around like a chicken with its head cut off (you can take the girl out of the country, butcha can't take the country out of the girl).
El Centro (the school in downtown Dallas where I teach) was closed down yesterday and today because of a break in a main water pipe. Totally flooded the basement, taking out most of the art department. :( Of all the things to get destroyed - stuff that can't be replaced. We were evacuated on Wednesday afternoon when it happened. I do have one observation - if we ever have a fire or an urgent reason to leave the building, we all just might die. Nine stories and only two ultra skinny stairwells. Yikes.
I did it. I bought a DART pass. I'm now officially one of the mass transit consumers, which is something new to me, since Denton doesn't really have a reliable mass transit system. But Dallas does, so now, instead of having to drive all that way and then pay for parking every day of the week, I can park and ride from Carrollton, which costs less than half as much as the other would. Woo-hoo!!
Is it bad that I'm kinda relieved that school was cancelled yesterday and today? I don't know what I would have done without all this extra time.
