I have remained spoiler free for this one, so my reactions were all over the place. Here's a play-by-play:

Forget the Daily Planet - Clark should go into the jewelry business. Who can claim that they had a diamond actually made just for them? Sparkly, pretty, and no children were harmed in the mining of this diamond. I'm not typically swooned by these things, but that was a damn romantic proposal. Hell, even I would marry him.

Did Martha roll her eyes at Pa Kent's looking-at-my-son-talking-to-a-man speech? If so, she's my favorite. Hmmm...the Kent Very Brady Moment came early this time...that makes me nervous. They're going to kill Jonathan, aren't they?

Wow, there are so many cheesy lines in this episode. Good thing I like cheese. *munches*

Drunk Lex = raw and rawr. I like that he booty-called Lana when he lost the election. I like Lex best with the unguarded honesty. He should drink more heavily more often. I hate that Lana is now lying to Lex. I kinda hope she dies a little.

Oh. Damn. I didn't mean it.

I LOVED Lana's death scene. You want to make Clark and Lex enemies? Yep. That should pretty much do it. Have her killed in a car accident when Lex was drunk and chasing her. Let the self-righteousness of Clark begin. The actors were amazing in this scene. Lex's face when he got out of the car - the utter helplessness and despair - broke my heart. That Clark was so distraught that he didn't care who saw him speed up to the scene. Damn, Jonathan. Where did you come from? Clark's grief was overwhelming to me. Oh, no. Someone that pretty should never have to be sad. I can't believe I'm actually upset that they killed Lana. I have her "I've always had a feeling I would die young" flashback in my head. *cries*

Man, Clark really is, um, consoling himself with that crystal. Don't squeeze it too hard.

Crap. Damn teases. Of course, we would have to undo the death of Lana. Can't let the Lolita die. Then who would Al/Miles fawn over on the DVD?

I really like Lana in the loft scene. I may be ok with her being alive after all.

"Why would you lie to someone you love?"
"I wouldn't."
*hearts*

It's probably just as well that Jonathan died. The scandal from roughing Lionel up in the barn would have been a nasty thing to have to deal with just as he was coming into office. What an idiot. I only cried because Martha did.

The pearls scene was sweet.

The funeral scene is my Most Favorite Non-Lexcentric Smallville Scene Ever. That was a brilliant way to end the episode.

So all that hype, and they ended up killing off the most obvious choice. I can't say I'm not a little disappointed, although I am somewhat relieved that they didn't off a character that I actually like. So I'm split.
