Purse and boots
Dec. 30th, 2005 04:03 pmPerhaps those are the only two things that will make me brave the day-after-Christmas mall. It was madness in there. But I hardly noticed it, because I came out victorious. I obtained (in a little under two hours...ok, so I noticed a little) one pair of the best boots that ever were and one obsessively compartmentalized purse (which nicely fits my obsessively compartmentalized organizational skills).
That was Monday. Yes, I realize that it's Friday. I've had very little internet time this week. The students spoke and group projected and I've been grading and knitting like crazy. Plus, I'm on holiday from UNT this week, so no long hours sitting in front of the computer with nothing else to do.
I love the week after Christmas. It is, quite possibly, my favorite week of this whole holiday season. Inevitably, it is the week where I and people around me get nostalgic about the year and the realization that December is almost over and we've been so busy all month preparing for whatever family plans we had that we've gone almost the whole month without seeing friends that are usually near. Then we call each other up and play.
Tuesday night, I had dinner (and beer, glorious beer) with
ravenluvslex and Granny at Bennigan's. It was a historic occasion, as it was the first time that The Very Best Boots That Ever Were made a public appearance. Much flattery ensued. And you know the Monte Cristo sandwich - that horribly bad for you one battered and deep fried and served with a fatty condiment? Now they have more than one version, which means that I joyously ordered the new turkey/tomato/bacon one with avocado ranch dressing. It was wonderful. I highly recommend it if you have no existing bad heart condition. We exchanged gifts, and I was given a plethora of coffee-themed things (thanks!). We also had dessert(s). It was technically one, but it was a sampler. Good times.
Wednesday night, in lieu of life group, The Herd decided to drive to Grapevine (because we don't have restaurants in Denton?) to go to Fuddruckers. I was told it would be the best burger that I had ever eaten. It was ok. I ate it. I got very full. It was enormous. It was great to see everyone again.
Thursday night, I had dinner at Beth and Kim's. There were originally four of us joining them, and we were each responsible for a different part of the meal (my part was the wine portion) but only two of us could make it, so we had main course, spontaneous salad, wine, and cheesecake. Sounds like the perfect meal to me. Then Kim, Beth and I played a couple of games and I went home very full again.
Today is Steph's birthday, so we're going to Olive Garden. Mmmm...so good. I'm looking forward to it a lot.
About those cards...*shuffles feet*...how would all of you feel about a nice New Year's card? :) *sheepish look* They will come. I swear on my new boots.
