Abuse from a teacher and a Christian makes me embarrassed (read: angry that both have been misrepresented...again) as a teacher and a Christian.

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] rosebud81

True Story. A religion teacher assigned her class an essay on what makes a good Christian. One student wrote about praying nightly, say no to abortion, banning gay marriage, and donating money. The other student wrote about talking to God and allowing people to enjoy their lives, and supporting gay marriage. The day the teacher was to hand the papers back, she called up the second student and told him she would pray for him when he went to hell. The student asked why would he be going to hell, and why he got an F on his paper. The teacher told him that Catholisim is against gay marriage. The student looked at her for a minute, then said aloud, "I'm gay." The teacher kicked him out of class as if he had said fuck or worshiped Satan. A girl in the back of class who had a boyfriend and was obviously straight got up and left too.

If you would leave the classroom, repost this. It doesn't matter if you're straight, bi, or gay. It doesn't matter if you're catholic or not. Everyone is a human being and deserves happiness.

You know, I it sure seems to me that thinking like that teacher and the Church is more the work of Satan than God, because why would something that could create such diversity in life and the universe be ashamed of any part of it? Or allow things it didn't want? Roaches are nasty buggers and we all hate them, but I doubt God hates them ... and if it did, wouldn't it be simpler to simply remove them from the world with a thought than hope that others will do it for it??? WTF?

It's obvious to me that the skin color, gender and sexual orientations are deliberate .... and that fighting against things like that work for Satan, not God. If you believe in that mythos of good vs evil personified, of course.

Personally I don't. I prefer the Native American path of walking in beauty on the good Red Road in this life ... and walking on the good Blue Road in the next. That the Great Spirit is just a part of the Great Mystery. And that we walk these roads of life and death for reasons of learning and sharing and growth .... even though we don't know why exactly. And that indiscriminate hatred only puts obstacles in your path, diverts you from the trail and blinds you to the beauty.

*sigh* Sometimes I wish I did believe in a vengeful, wrathful, limiting God who shudders in horror at the sight of a naked breast, who is disgusted when one of it's creatures says FUCK and who spits gouts of flame in anger when one dares to love another that is of a different color, different "religion" or of the same gender. One that would send blights upon the hateful people of the world and make it new again. Make everyone start all over.

But then I think, how will all those bigoted, hateful people ever grow and learn if they have to keep starting over? When you learn to play an instrument, you can't keep starting from the beginning when you hit a wrong note, you gotta push on through to the end, THEN start it again, trying not to hit that wrong note the next time.

Great Spirit, help me always to walk in beauty and understanding, and to not become what that with which I disagree.
